Iridescent Silk Shantung in Walnut brown

This is a beautiful woven medium walnut brown, iridescent silk shantung, 54" wide. The iridescence comes from the weave. Think of woven threads in two colors of chocolate: semi-sweet and milk! These different warp and weft threads are woven in a tight, fine cloth that shimmers and changes shade depending on how it is folded or draped. We have shown it with A Sherman-Williams fan deck to help confirm the color. Please let us know if you would like a sample to confirm the color, weight and texture. Sometimes this natural silk fabric is referred to as Silk Dupioni, but we classify this as Shantung. Silk Shantung has slubs that are much finer than those that characterize dupioni. Shantung has a good amount of body, lovely crispness, is somewhat thinner than dupioni and is suitable for garments and apparel as well as drapery. It is the “happy-medium” between a drapey silk charmeuse and a stiff silk dupioni or taffeta. Besides the popular uses of silk in home decorating and quilting projects, silk shantung is terrific for evening wear, flower girls’ dresses, bridal gowns or sashes, fabric flowers, a special occasion that calls for an exquisite outfit or a room that requires sumptuous texture and color.
